a furniture for naps.

3x better memory performance
16% increase in reaction time
34% increase in attention
83% increase in creativity
60% long-term improvement in cardiovascular health

studies from the Harvard University and the NASA.
Inspired by the positive effects of short naps on memory performance, attention, creativity, and health, we designed a piece of furniture specifically for this purpose. The unique feature of Kyba is its one-of-a-kind wake-up system, which wakes the user at the optimal individual time. Only by waking up at the perfect moment can the positive effects of a nap be fully realized. The wake-up mechanism functions without electronics and gently shifts the user from a lying to a sitting position.
During a nap, muscle relaxation indicates that the body is in a restful state. We use this relaxation to determine the optimal time to wake someone. When muscle relaxation is detected, our gentle wake-up process is triggered to ensure a smooth transition from sleep, minimizing grogginess and aligning with natural sleep cycles.

01

Sit on the lounge and use your legs to push yourself into a reclining position while pulling the band. The textile serves as a stopper, preventing the lounge from tilting further than the desired angle.

02

The stretchable textile creates a shield around your head, making it darker and providing a sense of security and privacy, which facilitates falling asleep. Hold the band taut to maintain this position. In this position, you take your nap.

03

Nap until muscle relaxation occurs, causing you to release the band and return to the sitting position. You are awakened multisensory: both the tilting motion and the increase in light lead to waking up. This new, gentle way of waking does not disturb others in the room, unlike traditional alarms.
