many fruit and vegetable peels that we eat every day end up in the rubbish.
yet the avocado is becoming more and more popular in germany and so is the amount of avocado peel.
in this concept, we have considered and tested how to breathe a second life into avocado peels.
our final product were foodbowls made from avocado peel. out of which you can enjoy your food.
problem | consumption
• imports have increased fivefold since 2008
• every german eats 1.13 kg per capita per year
• 94,000 tonnes of avocado were imported in 2018
• the main export countries are peru and the netherlands
a large part of the imported avocados is processed in the food industry,
e.g. into guacamole. during production, the peels remain as a waste product
we have tried how to use this peel waste and make to-go packaging out of it.
material testing
for our first attempts, we took our own avocado skins and cut them into small pieces. to make the skins a little more elastic, we boiled them in different soups.
Then we shaped them when they were wet and coated them with the natural starch glue we had made ourselves.

the following pictures show the final result after the drying process.

for a better preparation time, especially for cold dishes, we have come up with another lid variant. with this version, you can easily stack several food bowls on top of each other.
but it is also possible to use a second bowl as the cover.
